Abstract

Financial inclusion is an important component of inclusive economic development because it ensures that individuals and households, particularly those living in rural and economically disadvantaged areas, have access to affordable and appropriate financial services. In India, geographical distance, inadequate banking infrastructure, low financial literacy, limited digital connectivity and socio-economic inequalities have historically restricted access to formal financial services in rural areas. India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), established under the Department of Posts, Government of India, has emerged as an important institution for addressing these challenges by leveraging the extensive postal network and the accessibility of postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks.

The study is primarily based on secondary data collected from government publications, institutional reports, research studies, journals and official information relating to IPPB and financial inclusion. The study concludes that IPPB has significant potential to strengthen last-mile financial inclusion in rural India. However, continuous investment in digital infrastructure, financial literacy, cybersecurity, customer awareness and service quality is necessary to transform accessibility into effective and sustainable financial inclusion.
