Abstract
After providing vital raw materials for
industrial expansion, infrastructural development, and energy production, the
mining sector is vital to India's economic progress. However, mining operations
frequently lead to socioeconomic difficulties, biodiversity loss, community
displacement, and environmental deterioration. In this regard, corporate social
responsibility, or CSR, has become a key tool for mining firms to fulfill their
social and environmental responsibilities. This study looks at the idea, importance,
applications, and difficulties of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the
Indian mining sector. It examines the efforts made by large mining corporations
in fields like community welfare, livelihood development, healthcare,
education, and environmental conservation. The study also explores the legal
framework governing CSR in India and evaluates the effectiveness of CSR
programs in promoting sustainable development. The findings indicate that while
mining companies have made substantial contributions to community development,
challenges such as inadequate stakeholder participation, lack of transparency,
and environmental concerns continue to affect CSR outcomes. The study concludes
that integrating CSR with sustainable mining practices and active community
engagement can enhance the social and environmental performance of the mining
sector.
